Microsoft has announced a major new investment of $700 million (2.8 billion zloty) in Poland, expanding its data centre infrastructure to bolster AI development, enhance cybersecurity, and drive the nation’s global competitiveness.

Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith announced a high-profile event in Warsaw, attended by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Smith described the investment as an “enormous vote of confidence” in the Polish people, economy, and government leadership.

“We do not make investments of this magnitude lightly, but we have the confidence to invest here in Poland because of the work of recent years and what that has enabled us to look forward and see for the future,” said Smith

This new phase of investment follows Microsoft’s initial $1 billion commitment in 2020, which saw the establishment of its first regional data centre in Poland, operational since 2023. The latest infusion of funds will run until the summer of 2026, focusing on expanding AI capabilities and increasing data centre capacity.

In addition, Microsoft plans to intensify its cybersecurity collaboration with the Polish defence forces a partnership that has grown significantly since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. “One of the things we’ve seen firsthand is how critical Poland has been for the defence of Ukraine,” Smith added.

“We want to take cybersecurity to the next level by building our AI competencies and working with the defence forces to ensure Poland remains at the technological frontier.”
