CarMax, the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, has just appointed 72andSunny Los Angeles as its creative agency of record. This is a big deal, and it’s a sign that CarMax is looking to shake things up and evolve its brand storytelling. The story was broken by Brandon Doerrer.

The Partnership
72andSunny will work with CarMax to bring to life the company’s innovative customer-centric offerings, refresh the brand, and connect with consumers in culturally relevant ways. The Creative Vision
As creative AOR, 72andSunny will help develop CarMax’s go-to market approach, leading with a unified full-funnel creative vision. This will serve as the foundation for a long-term platform that drives successful creative executions. The goal is to create a seamless and cohesive brand experience that resonates with CarMax’s target audience.

The Team
The 72andSunny Los Angeles office will lead the account, overseen by managing director Emily Connelly. The creative will be led by executive creative director Lauren Smith, who has driven some of the agency’s most recognised work. This is a strong team, and they’re well-equipped to tackle the challenge of repositioning CarMax as a leader in the used car market.

The Debut Work
Debut work will be released this summer, and it’s going to be interesting to see how 72andSunny’s creative vision comes to life. CarMax is looking to refresh its brand and connect with consumers in new and meaningful ways, and 72andSunny is the right partner to help them achieve that goal.

The Quotes
Sarah Lane, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at CarMax, said that the company was impressed and inspired by 72andSunny’s fresh ideas, collaborative spirit, and strategic vision. Emily Connelly, managing director of 72andSunny Los Angeles, said that CarMax has built a legacy of innovation and is excited to partner with a brand that’s pushing the category forward. These quotes say it all – both parties are excited about the partnership and are looking to achieve great things together.
