Pakistan Sets New Zakat Nisab Ahead of Ramadan

Zakat Deduction to Be Made on the First Day of Ramadan
Pakistan has set PKR 179,689 as the minimum Nisab of Zakat for the Zakat Year 1445-46 AH (2025), according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety.
The Nisab represents the minimum amount of savings or wealth upon which Zakat is applicable under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, 1980.
Zakat Deduction Date & Applicability
The first day of Ramadan likely to fall on March 1 or 2, 2025 (subject to moon sighting) has been designated as the Zakat deduction date. Zakat will be deducted from:
- Saving bank accounts
- Profit and loss sharing accounts
- Similar deposit accounts
However, no Zakat will be deducted if the balance in these accounts is less than PKR 179,689 on the deduction date.
Bank Instructions & Compliance
The ministry has directed all banks and financial institutions to comply with the Zakat Nisab guidelines and deduct Zakat at source from eligible accounts. All Zakat Collection & Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) are requested to ensure timely deductions and deposits of the collected amounts.
