The Majority of Lahoris Express Satisfaction with the Punjab Government’s Safety Measures During Basant this year

Most Lahore residents expressed satisfaction with the Punjab Government’s safety and security measures implemented during the Basant celebrations, held from 6th February to late into the night on 8th February.

According to a telephonic survey conducted by PulseConsultant, around 62% of Lahoris reported being satisfied with the arrangements made to ensure public safety during the festival.

Study Dynamics

The study was conducted between 6th and 9th February among 1,200+ respondents of both genders, aged 16 years and above. The objective of the research was to understand citizens’ attitudes, behaviors, and participation patterns surrounding the return of #Basant after 25 years. The study covered all tehsils of Lahore, ensuring representation across all socio-economic classes.

Key Findings

Public Perceptions

◼️62% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the Punjab Government’s measures to ensure public safety and security during Basant. Only 18% are dissatisfied with safety measures.
◼️53% fully supported the decision to celebrate Basant after 25 years.
◼️20% remained neutral toward the decision.
◼️28% expressed opposition to the revival of the festival.

Participation Insights

◼️54% of respondents personally participated in Basant celebrations.
◼️Participation was higher among males (57%) compared to females (47%).
◼️57% reported that someone in their household participated in the festival.
◼️Female respondents (62%) reported higher household participation compared to males (57%).

Basant Dynamics

◼️Among those who celebrated Basant, 72% preferred celebrating at home.
◼️35% visited friends’ or relatives’ homes, while 14% attended public events, festivals, or fairs.
◼️Celebrations typically began in the afternoon and continued late into the night and early morning hours.
◼️The average expenditure on kites and related accessories (including ڈور and مانجھا) exceeded PKR 11,000.
