Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan’s largest exploration and production (E&P) firm, has announced the successful discovery of gas condensate reserves at the Baloch-2 well in Sanghar district, Sindh.

This development is a significant milestone for the Sinjhoro block, particularly within the Sembar Formation, according to a notice issued by the company to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.

The discovery is a joint venture effort, with OGDCL serving as the operator with a 76% working interest. The venture also includes Orient Petroleum (19%) and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) (5%). The Baloch-2 well, located within the Sinjhoro Exploration Licence, represents a key exploratory success in the Sembar Formation.

OGDCL reported that the Baloch-2 well was spudded on February 24, 2024, reaching a total depth of 3,920 meters. This effort was supported by in-house evaluations and technical collaboration with the joint venture partners.

According to the company, the well has tested 6.8 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas and 388 barrels of condensate per day (bcpd) during Drill Stem Test-3, conducted at a choke size of 32/64” with a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 2180 Pounds per square inch (Psi).

The notice highlighted the Sembar Formation’s strong hydrocarbon potential, which extends across the Middle and Lower Indus Basin of Pakistan.

This discovery not only confirms the formation’s capacity but also opens new avenues for further exploration and development in the Sinjhoro block. OGDCL is also planning to re-enter previously shut-in wells and expedite the full development of the Sembar Formation’s potential.

Earlier in the month, OGDCL had also commenced production of tight gas from the Nur West Well-1, located in Sindh.
